The 2011 MLB Draft is over the the Indians have added 50 selections, most of whom you have never heard of and most of whom you will never hear of again.

Be that as it may, here is a link to all picks for all teams, via MLB.com.

We have already taken a brief look at Francisco Lindor, the Indians' pick in the first round at number 8. The Tribe selected pitchers at both 67 and 97.

That second-round pick at 67 was Dillon Howard of Searcy High School in Arkansas. Here is a thumbnail look at Howard, again, via MLB.com:

Comments: In past Drafts, there would only be a small offering of high-ceiling, projectable high school pitchers with good velocity to choose from in the first round. In 2011, there's some depth in that category. Case in point is Howard, who doesn't rank up with the prep arms being mentioned near the top of the Draft, but isn't far off, either. The Arkansas product has a fastball that will be plus, touching 95 mph at times. It's not straight, either, with both sink and run to it. His hard curve, 78-80 mph, is a little slurvy now and is fringy average, but it's got some depth to it and will be more than fine. He's even got a good feel for a changeup, an offspeed pitch that should be a Major League average pitch as well. With a clean delivery, decent overall command -- not as much with the curve -- and the chance to have a solid three-pitch mix, Howard looks like he's settled firmly into the first round, unless signability (he's advised by Scott Boras) becomes an issue.

If you follow the link you will have access to filters for all teams' picks and the order in which they occurred. A veritable feast for draft junkies.

The first round of the 2011 Major League draft was completed last night in New Jersey, with a total of 60 picks being taken.

Those 60 picks included 33 "regular" picks and 27 "supplemental" picks due to free-agent signings.

The Indians had only their one pick in all of that activity, taking high school shortstop Francisco Lindor. On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Rays had ten of the sixty players chosen, as compensation for numerous free-agent losses.

Rather than list all 60 picks, I will provide you with this link, via Yahoo Sports and Rivals.com. Here you will be given a brief thumbnail sketch for each pick, as well as expert analysis of said picks, and the circumstances under which a team like the Rays can garner 16% of the choices all for themselves.

By way of example, here is what the article has to say about Cleveland's pick of Lindor.:

The Pick: Francisco Lindor, SS, Montverde (Fla.) Montverde Academy
The Buzz: This was the only pick the Indians could have made at this spot. The farm system has been barren of shortstop talent and Lindor was the No. 1 high school prospect overall this season. He has been drawing comparisons to Omar Vizquel, both with his range and his batting. He will likely need three or four years in the minors but, at only 17, that is not a problem.

The article is a good read, and might be handy to bookmark, and look back on in a couple of years, to see which picks have panned out, or are on the way to panning out, and which will leave you shaking your head and wondering "What ever happened to that guy?".

The Indians picked a potential shortstop for the future on Monday night in the 2011 MLB Draft, selecting Francisco Lindor, 17, from Montverde Academy in Florida.

Lindor was rated the top high school prospect of 2011 overall. It is said that he reminds one of Omar Vizquel with both the stick and with the glove.

Of course someone this young will need seasoning and that seasoning may take awhile. But the Indians may have solved any shortstop problems in the foreseeable future with this pick.

Further details on Lindor as well as details on forthcoming Tribe picks will be covered in further updates tomorrow.

It will be noted that a) Many teams have more than one pick in the first round; and b) Some teams have no picks. The reason being that picks were "added" to compensate teams for having lost players. For example, the Nationals have one extra pick for Adam Dunn, and the Red Sox having acquired Carl Crawford give Tampa Bay an extra pick.

There will also be a compensatory addendum to the first round, with an additional 27 picks, but the Tribe misses out on that, and will -- after their eighth pick on Monday -- have to wait until the 67th pick for their second addition, barring any deals.

Who might Cleveland take in the first round? The mock drafts are all over the place as of now. Left-handed pitcher Jed Bradley from Georgia has been mentioned, as has RHP Matt Barnes from Connecticut and RHP Sonny Gray from Vanderbilt.

Look back here tomorrow for a more detailed look at the first round, when we will be able to put names with teams, including the Tribe's top pick.
