The only real noise heard about any last-day deals for the Tribe involved San Diego’s (and former Indian) Ryan Ludwick, but after the Padres’ asking price proved to be too steep for Cleveland’s blood, outfielder Ludwick instead went to the Pittsburgh Pirates, on what turned out to be a quiet day in the American League Central — assuming that no deals have been made but not yet announced.

Also, Ubaldo Jimenez has passed a physical and is said to be ready to join the Indians in Boston on Tuesday, although it is not clear when he might be ready to make his first appearance for the Tribe, after working an inning last night in San Diego and laboring through 45 pitches.

If any late deals are announced, we will have it for you here, but if not, the sum total of the additions for the offensively-struggling Tribe were a decent outfielder in Fukudome and a pitcher in Jimenez.

Alrighty then.

The Cleveland Indians are making waves throughout Major League Baseball on the eve of the MLB Trade Deadline. Having already acquired Ubaldo Jimenez from the Colorado Rockies, the Indians made another deal Saturday night, sending 2B Orlando Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants for AAA outfielder Thomas Neal.

Neal is hitting .295 in the Pacific Coast League, with 13 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs. He was a 36th round pick of the Giants in the 2005 draft and was named a Topps Class A All-Star in 2009.

The Indians may not be done, either. There are still rumblings that the Tribe could add another bat, possibly outfielder Ryan Ludwick of the San Diego Padres. Ludwick would provide some pop and a solid outfield arm.

The MLB Trade Deadline is Sunday, July 31, at 4PM et. The Indians are trying to stay alive in the American League Central, winning Saturday night 5-2 against Kansas City.

A high-stakes game of chicken between the Cleveland Indians and Colorado Rockies looks to have come to an end with the Indians and Rockies reportedly coming to terms on a trade involving Rockies' ace Ubaldo Jimenez. As for the Indians, they are doing what they said they wouldn't do - in some ways. The Tribe will reportedly send prospects Joe Gardner, 1B Matt McBride and pitchers Alex White and Drew Pemeranz.

Things seemed to be moving quickly towards a deal earlier Saturday night - the Indians had scratched Pomeranz and McBride from their game tonight with AA Akron - but the Rockies seemed to be pressing for more. Jimenez actually took the mound for his start against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field and was rocked for 4 runs. After throwing 45 pitches, walking four and striking out 2 in just one inning, Jimenez was pulled and was seen hugging his teammates and manager Jim Tracy.

Pitching hasn't been a problem for the Indians lately, scoring runs has. The Tribe just broke a 24-run scoreless streak with a run in the 8th inning against the Kansas City Royals. For the Indians, however, who stated they would not mortgage the future to make a run in 2011, Jimenez was attractive because he is actually under contract through 2013, giving the Indians 2+ seasons for their investment.

this season has been a tale of two cities for Jimenez, who appears to have fell into the trap that several pitchers fall into at Coors Field. After a blistering start to 2010, Jimenez has struggled, though this season he has been a lot better on the road(2.83 ERA) than at home(5.55 ERA). For the season, Jimenez is 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians can't seem to score a run but that isn't stopping them from trying to acquiring a top-notch starting pitcher. According to ESPN.com, the Indians and Colorado Rockies may be close to a deal for Rockies' ace Ubaldo Jimenez. In fact, the Indians top pitching prospect in the minors - Drew Pomeranz - was scratched from his scheduled start with AA Akron Saturday night and many think it is because he is going to be a big part of any proposed trade involving Jimenez.

Jimenez, meanwhile, is scheduled to take the mound in San Diego for the Rockies, and as of 8:50PM et he was preparing to pitch. It should be stated, however, that the Rockies reportedly have a someone in the bullpen just in case the deal gets consummated during the game.

Crazy, right?

Pomeranz wasn't the only prospect to be scratched from the Aeros lineup. Alex White, another pitching prospect with Akron was told he would not make his start in Sunday while first baseman Matt McBride was taken out of the lineup as well.

The Indians are one of three teams believed to be involved in the Jimenez talks. The New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds are also believed to be in the running.

The Detroit Tigers, two-and-a-half games ahead of the Indians and three games up on the White Sox, have reportedly added starter Doug Fister from the Seattle Mariners.

The report says that Detroit will also pick up reliever David Pauley from the Mariners, and give up left-hander Charlie Furbush and outfielder Casper Wells to Seattle.

Fister is only 3-12 on the season, but do not be deceived, as that stat comes compliment of a weak Seattle offense. The relevant number is 3.33, which is Fister's ERA over 146 innings in 2011.

Pauley has a 5-4 mark and an excellent 2.15 ERA in just over 54 innings of work, and has allowed only 38 hits in those innings.

Furbush is in his first big-league season and has gone 1-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 17 games for Detroit, while Wells is hitting .257 with four homers and 12 RBI in 113 at-bats.

The trade deadline is at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, and with a lot of silence from the rest of the AL Central, the Tigers get better just when teams below them need to be the ones making up a gap.

We will see what else transpires today and tomorrow.

The Indians made one deal on Thursday, acquiring outfielder Kosuke Fukudome from the Chicago Cubs, but reports are out there that the Tribe isn't done and have their eyes on a much bigger prize.

According to FoxSports' Ken Rosenthal, the Indians are one of three teams in the running for Colorado Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. Rosenthall goes on to say that the Indians could match up the best with the Rockies if, and that's a big if, they are willing to part with the players required to make the deal. The New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds are also believed to be involved.

Who those pieces are we don't know for sure, though Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall could be part of the package. The Indians need to decide fast if they are going to try and win the AL Central this year or hold on to their top prospects in order to build for 2012 and beyond.

Jimenez could be a part of that future, however, with a budget friendly contract that has him making $2.8 million this season, $4.2 million in 2012 and $5.75 million club-option in 2013.

According to multiple reports and via Cleveland.com's story, the Indians have indeed acquired Kosuke Fukudome from the Chicago Cubs for two prospects.

And according to SB Nation's 'Daily Dish', those two players will be Abner Abreu and Carlton Smith.

The info regarding Abreu and Smith comes via a Jim Bowden "tweet".

******************************************

In other trade deadling updates, Edwin Jackson, who was traded yesterday from the White Sox to the Blue Jays, was in turn dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals for Colby Rasmus, who might or might not have been in Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa's dog-house.

Be that as it may, this moves a quality starter out of the Central Division of the American League.

Also, a quality (and much sought-after) bat will also not come to the Central and torment the Indians, as the New York Mets dealt Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants.

I guess the rich get richer, etc.

Fukudome will probably play right field for the Tribe in the absence of Shin-Soo Choo. Fukudome is a quality outfielder, although his offensive numbers this season have not been overly-impressive.

In 87 games and 293 at-bats for the Cubs, Fukudome was hitting .273, but with only three homers and 13 RBI. In fact, his last RBI came on July 18,

On June 16, Fukudome drove in four runs against the Milwaukee Brewers, but in no other game this year has he driven in more than one.

With the Major League Baseball trade deadline quickly approaching, and the Cleveland Indians struggling, Buster Olney is reporting the Indians and Chicago Cubs are nearing a deal for outfielder Kosuke Fukudome. Fukudome, 34, is batting .273 this season with 3 home runs and 13 RBI in 87 games.

According to the report, the Indians would send two prospects to the Cubs while Chicago would pay most of the $5 million owed to Fukudome this season.

For his career, Fukudome is a .262 hitter with 37 career home runs. He is in his fourth season with the Cubs and is known as a solid outfielder, playing both centerfield and right field with the Cubs. Fukudome has thrown out 5 runners this year and has committed just two errors this season, something the Indians have struggled with recently. With Shin-Soo Choo still recovering from hand surgery, the Indians will likely play Fukudome in right field.

Olney believes the deal will be finalized by game time Thrusday.
