Ubaldo Jimenez tossed six solid innings to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 7-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a four-game series at U.S. Cellular Field.

Jimenez (3-2) gave up two runs on three hits while walking five batters. He also struck out a pair.

Luis Valbuena had three hits, including a solo home run, Trevor Crowe added three hits and Carlos Santana chipped in with a two-run double for the Indians.

Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham both collected an RBI for the White Sox, who had won six of their previous eight home games.

Zach Stewart (2-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits over five frames. He struck out four and walked a pair.

"I wasn't hitting my spots like I was last time out," Stewart said. "My breaking ball wasn't sharp and I got hit around a little bit."

Cleveland opened the scoring in the second, plating three runs to take an early lead. After Travis Hafner and Shelley Duncan struck out, Lonnie Chisenhall stroked a single to right to begin the rally and Valbuena followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners. Crowe then singled home Chisenhall for the first run of the game, and Lou Marson doubled in Valbuena and Crowe for a 3-0 advantage.

The White Sox got two runs back in the third. Alejandro De Aza manufactured the first run of the inning for Chicago when he singled to begin the frame, stole second and third and trotted home on a fielder's choice by Beckham. Juan Pierre then singled and Beckham moved to third to put runners on the corners with one out. Ramirez grounded into another fielder's choice, allowing Beckham to score to pull Chicago within one.

Cleveland threatened to expand its lead in the fourth. Valbuena ripped a single to start the inning and moved to second on a groundout by Crowe. Kosuke Fukudome was intentionally walked two batters later to give the Indians runners on first and second. Cleveland was unable to capitalize, however, as Jason Donald grounded into a force out at second to end the inning.

The White Sox answered with a threat in the home half of the inning when Jimenez struggled to find the strike zone. Things started well, as A.J. Pierzynski grounded out, but Jimenez walked Dayan Viciedo, Alex Rios and Brent Morel to load the bases with two outs. He recovered to strand the bases loaded, getting Beckham to ground out to third to end the inning.

Cleveland tacked on another run in the sixth courtesy of a solo-shot from Valbuena into the right field seats to make it a 4-2 game.

The Indians broke the game open in the eighth with three more runs to make it a 7-2 game. Chisenhall ripped a single to begin the frame, Crowe singled two batters later and Marson walked to load the bases with one out. Following a Fukudome fly out, Donald beat out an infield single which allowed Chisenhall to score. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Santana, who cracked a two-run double into right field corner to give the Indians a commanding lead.

"The bottom of the order did it for us," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "Especially Carlos with that huge two-run double to give us a cushion. We needed it."

Chicago picked up a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Pierre to account for the final margin.

Alex Rios won the game in style for Chicago as his grand slam in the 10th inning gave the team a 7-3 win over Cleveland.

With Chris Perez (3-7) on the mound, Juan Pierre doubled to start the frame. Alexei Ramirez fouled out trying to bunt, but Paul Konerko was issued an intentional pass and Tyler Flowers followed with a walk to load the bases for Rios, who drilled a first-pitch fastball over the wall in left for the win.

"We battled through the whole game and it was a long game," said Rios. "It felt really good to get that hit right there and come through for the team."

Rios' first career grand slam made a winner of Sergio Santos (4-4), who threw an uneventful 10th inning to help the White Sox win for the fifth time in their past seven games.

Gordon Beckham drove in two runs while Pierre had an RBI and scored a run for Chicago, which got six innings of two-run, seven-hit ball out of starter Philip Humber.

Shelley Duncan hit a solo home run while Matt LaPorta added a two-run double for the Indians, who have lost five of six. Fausto Carmona gave up three runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

"They've been good throughtout the year," said Cleveland manager Manny Acta about his bullpen. "They will have rough spots here and there, but I'm not going to complain about it cause they've been very good for us this year."

Beckham's RBI double in the second scored Alejandro De Aza to give Chicago a 1-0 lead.

LaPorta's double to center in the fifth plated Duncan and Lonnie Chisenhall to lift the Indians to a 2-1 advantage.

Beckham worked a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth and Pierre followed with an RBI single to give the White Sox the lead, but Duncan tied the game with a leadoff home run in the seventh off of Jesse Crain.

Chicago lead the bases loaded in the eighth and ninth innings.

Fausto Carmona tries to shake off his worst outing of the season this afternoon when the Cleveland Indians continue a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

Carmona couldn't get out of the second inning on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers, as he allowed seven runs and eight hits in just 1 1/3 innings, dropping him to 6-14 on the year to go along with a 5.18 earned run average.

"My pitches weren't working today," Carmona said. "My sinker was flat. It stayed in the middle. I tried to pitch inside, but everything moved to the middle and was easy to hit."

After returning from the 15-day disabled list on July 18 following his recovery from a strained right quadriceps, Carmona tossed seven consecutive strong starts, compiling a 2.49 ERA over that stretch.

However, in his last three outings, spanning a total of 13 2/3 innings, Carmona has surrendered 17 runs (15 earned) and 24 hits, while posting a 9.88 ERA.

"He's had pretty much quality starts since he came off the DL," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said, "but today, he just left the ball out over the plate. That lineup that they have, you have to be on your game in order for them not to put up a bunch of runs on you."

Carmona's last win came against the White Sox back on August 17 and he is 8-5 lifetime against them with a 5.57 ERA in 16 games, 14 of which have been starts.

The Indians got back to .500 on Friday, as Lonnie Chisenhall clubbed a pair of two-run home runs to lead Cleveland to an 8-4 victory. Ezequiel Carrera and Kosuke Fukudome added two RBI apiece and Shelley Duncan chipped in with two hits, including a double for the Indians, who snapped a four-game skid.

Jeanmar Gomez (3-2) tossed six strong innings, yielding two runs on six hits while fanning three without issuing a walk.

Gordon Beckham went 2-for-4 with a double and Juan Pierre smacked an RBI double for the White Sox, who failed to carry over momentum from an 8-1 rout on Thursday.

Mark Buehrle (11-8) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two.

Tonight, Chicago will rely on right-hander Philip Humber, who is 9-8 with a 3.45 ERA. Humber was terrific in his first start in more than two weeks after taking a liner off his head, as he scattered six hits over seven scoreless innings to beat the Minnesota Twins.

"It feels like it's been a year since I had a win," Humber said. "The guys did a great job getting those runs early, and I just kind of got a lot of ground balls. It was a great feeling to have some success."

This will be Humber's second-ever start against the Indians.

Despite Friday's loss Chicago has gotten the better of its division rivals this season, winning eight of the 12 matchups, including four of the seven meetings in the Windy City.

Mark Buherle (11-8) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two.

The Indians opened the scoring in the second inning when Duncan singled to center to lead off and Chisenhall followed by blasting an offering from Buehrle over the wall in right for his fifth homer of the season.

"He's a guy that projects not to be a platoon guy or a guy whose going to struggle against lefties," Indians manager Manny Acta said of Chisenhall. "His swing is so short, no holes in it."

Beckham slapped a single to get things started in the third and moved to second on a wild pitch by Gomez before coming home with Chicago's first run on a double into the left-center field gap by Pierre. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Paul Konerko.

The Indians broke the game open in the sixth with five runs. Carlos Santana worked a one-out walk and Chisenhall cracked his second homer of the game over the right field wall to give the Indians a two-run lead and Carrera doubled home Lou Marson later in the frame to make it 5-2. A two-run single by Fukudome made it 7-2.

"He hung a couple pitches and was kind of erratic," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said of his starter's performance. "I think the big hit was when Carrera got that double, that one killed him. Even when he was getting outs, guys were hitting the ball pretty hard."

Cleveland added another run in the eighth inning when Trevor Crowe walked with one out, stole second and hustled home on a double to right-center field by Carrera.

The White Sox got a run back in the home half of the inning when Beckham doubled to lead off the frame, moved to third on a flyout by Pierre and scored on a groundout by Ramirez.

In the ninth, Dayan Viciedo worked a one out walk against Nick Hagadone. Following an Alejandro De Aza foul out, Hagadone plunked Tyler Flowers and walked Brent Morel to load the bases with two down. Viciedo scored on a passed ball by Marson to account for the final margin, but Beckham was caught looking at strike three to end the game.

Morel finished with two homers and drove in a career-high four runs for the White Sox, who have won four of their last five.

The White Sox announced after the game that infielder Brent Lillibridge suffered a broken hand and will miss the rest of the season. He was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning.

"It was a nice game and we’ve been swinging the bat real good lately," said Konerko. "But we feel bad for Lillibridge cause he’s been having a great year."

Matt Thornton (1-4) turned in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to win it for Gavin Floyd, who scattered five hits and one run over his 5 2/3-inning start.

"We couldn’t get anything going offensively and we didn’t match up well," said Cleveland manager Manny Acta. "When their bullpen came out they just shut us down."

Jim Thome posted two hits and knocked in the only run for the Indians, losers of four straight and six of eight.

David Huff (2-4) was charged for three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in the setback.

Leading by a run, Huff ran into trouble in the seventh, starting off the inning by walking Alexei Ramirez and allowing an Alex Rios single. He fanned Tyler Flowers before departing, but Frank Herrmann served up Morel’s go-ahead three-run blast to left.

Gordon Beckham walked, Juan Pierre singled and Lillibridge was plunked on the hand to load the bases, and Konerko cleared the sacks with a shot to left for an 8-1 game.

Thornton recorded the final out of the Cleveland seventh, then retired the visitors in order in the eighth. Josh Kinney worked around a leadoff double from Asdrubal Cabrera to turn in a scoreless ninth.

Cleveland picked up a run in the first as Cabrera singled, stole second and scored on a Thome base hit.

Morel’s one-out solo shot in the third evened the score.

Morel notched his first career multi-homer game, while Konerko recorded his 10th career grand slam, tying him with Robin Ventura on the franchise’s all- time list…Pierre collected his 2,000th career hit in the ChiSox victory, becoming the 268th member of that club.

Not what we hoped for, but second place is at stake in the Windy City

** Preview via SB Nation and Sports Network **

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers appear well on their way to an American League Central title, but who finishes behind them is still anyone's guess. Perhaps this series between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox will shed some light on that as the division rivals open a four-game set at U.S. Cellular Field.

Detroit separated itself from the White Sox by sweeping them last weekend. This week it was the Indians' turn, as they lost all three games at home to Tigers, including an 8-6 set on Wednesday at Progressive Field.

Shelley Duncan homered twice off of Justin Verlander and finished with three hits, while Lonnie Chisenhall hit a two-run homer in the loss for the Tribe, who gave up five runs in the seventh and lost for the fifth time in seven games.

"They took care of business, and obviously we didn't," said Indians manager Manny Acta, whose team fell 9 1/2 games back in the division. "They're doing a good job of running away from us, beating us head-to-head."

Getting the call for the Indians tonight will be lefty David Huff, who is 2-3 with a 2.81 ERA. Huff lost for the third time in four decisions on Saturday in Kansas City, as the Royals reached him for five runs (four earned) and six hits in six innings.

Huff has faced the White Sox four times (three starts) and is 2-0 against them, despite an 8.04 ERA.

Chicago, meanwhile, bounced back from its sweep in Detroit to take three of four from the Minnesota Twins, but found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-4 decision at Target Field on Wednesday.

Paul Konerko went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for the White Sox, who were looking for their first four-game sweep against Minnesota since 2008. A.J. Pierzynski, Juan Pierre and Alex Rios each had an RBI.

Pierre is now one hit away from 2,000 for his career.

John Danks (6-11) allowed five runs -- four earned -- on six hits over six innings to take the loss. He struck out four and walked two for Chicago, which sits nine games back of the Tigers in the standings.

Tonight, Chicago will rely on righty Gavin Floyd, who is 12-10 on the year with a 4.45 ERA. Floyd's unbeaten streak reached five starts on Saturday in Detroit, as he escaped without a decision, but allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings of a 9-8 loss.

Floyd is 2-0 in three starts versus the Indians this season and 6-3 lifetime with a 4.57 ERA lifetime in 11 starts against them.

Chicago has gotten the better of its division rivals this season winning seven of the 10 matchups, including three of the five meetings in the Windy City.
