The Indians played their last home game of the season today and took it a step longer, finally falling in 10 innings to the Minnesota Twins 6-4, finishing their home schedule with a record of 44-37.

Rene Tosoni hit a go-ahead homer off of Tony Sipp (6-3) in the tenth, and Minnesota added another run before Joe Nathan closed the door on Progressive Field for 2011 with his 14th save.

Kyle Waldrop earned his first major league win for the Twins.

Each team scored twice in the first, with Lonnie Chisenhall collecting two RBIs with a single scoring Jason Kipnis and Travis Hafner.

The Indians then took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the third on Shelley Duncan’s 11th homer of the season, but the Twins scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth off of Indians’ starter Fausto Carmona.

After Carmona left in the seventh, Rafael Perez, Vinnie Pestano and Joe Smith got the game to extra innings before Sipp gave up the game-winning runs for the Twins.

Now the Indians head to Detroit to face the Tigers in the final series of the season for The Good Guys. Cleveland leads the White Sox (who lost today to the Royals) by three games, and will only fail to finish second in the Central Division if they lose their last three games and Chicago sweeps the Blue Jays.

If the Tribe wins two-of-three in Detroit they will finish above .500.

The home season for the Indians comes to an end on Sunday at 1:05 when the Tribe and the Twins wrap up their four-game series at Progressive Field.

Thanks to a late outburst in the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader yesterday, Cleveland will be going for a four-game sweep of Minnesota when Fausto Carmona takes the hill to face Liam Hendriks.

After Zach Putnam picked up his first major league win in the opener thanks to a six-run outburst in the sixth inning that led to an 8-2 win, the Indians came from behind in a big way in the second game, trailing 6-0 going to the bottom of the sixth before scoring five runs, then adding two in the seventh to take the lead en route to a 7-6 win that improved the Tribe to 80-78 on the year.

Nick Hagadone also got his first big league win in the nightcap, making it a special day for the young among the Tribe pitchers. Chris Perez picked up his 36th save as well last night.

Oddly enough, in 18 innings of baseball yesterday and with a lot of runs scored, there were no home runs from either side.

In the opener, with the score tied 2-2 going to the bottom of the sixth, Shelley Duncan drove in his third run of the game with a sac fly to get things rolling. Matt LaPorta plated a run with a double, and Jack Hannahan and Kosuke Fukudome added RBI singles, making it 6-2. Jason Kipnis put the exclamation point on the inning, driving in two more with a base hit, and closing the scoring.

In the nightcap, after The Good Guys fell behind 6-0, it would have been easy to just fold up the tent and take the loss, but in the sixth, there was Duncan again, driving in the first run with a single. Lonnie Chisenhall doubled to make it 6-2 before Lou Marson got in on the fun with a run-scoring base hit. Cord Phelps’s ground out made it 6-4, and Ezequiel Carrera’s single made it 6-5.

Finally, in the bottom of the seventh, Duncan struck again, driving in the tying and go-ahead runs with a double, and giving the Indians all they would need to send Minnesota to their 98th loss of the season.

Duncan contributed six RBIs on the day.

And now we come to the end of the home season with the Tribe on a nice little winning streak and closing in on clinching second place in the Central. It isn’t over yet, as Cleveland’s "magic number" is 2 to guarantee finishing ahead of Chicago.

After this afternoon’s contest the Indians will head to Detroit for three games with the Tigers to truly close the season.

On this second-to-last day of the 2011 season at home, the Indians and the Twins will play two games for the price of...well, two, as Cleveland and Minnesota go at it at 1:05 and again at 7:05 for the Indians' second doubleheader in five days.

In the opener the scheduled pitchers are David Huff (2-6) and Scott Diamond (1-5). Huff has lost his last four starts consecutively, but has not been helped by the defense in his last two outings, giving up nine unearned runs in just 6.2 innings of work.

Huff has not won since beating Oakland on August 29, but one of his two victories this season came when he beat the Twins on July 18. Huff was brilliant in that outing in Minnesota, pitching seven scoreless innings and allowing five hits in a game won by the Tribe 5-2.

Diamond made his major league debut vs. Cleveland on that same July 18. In that game Diamond went 6.1 frames and allowed four runs, three of which were earned. Aside from giving up five runs in four innings against the Yankees in his last start, Diamond has pitched pretty well, and considering that two of his six appearances were against the Tigers, two were against the White Sox and one was vs. the Yankees, a 4.81 ERA is not all that bad.

Francisco Liriano gets the start in the second game for the Twins. Liriano (9-9) is 5-4 in his career with an ERA of 3.00 in 72 innings of work vs. The Good Guys. Liriano is only 1-1 against the Tribe this season, but that loss was a 1-0 defeat on June 7 in which Liriano gave up only an unearned run in five innings.

Liriano's opponent will be Mitch Talbot, who finally gets back in action after not appearing in a big league game since July 8.

Talbot (2-6) will be making his first appearance vs. Minnesota in 2011. Mitch has worked only 58.1 innings this season.

After today's twin-bill, the Indians will wrap up action at Progressive Field for 2011 on Sunday at 1:05, when Fausto Carmona (7-15) takes on Liam Hendriks (0-2).

Indians open their last home series of the year on Friday

The Indians will have a return engagement this weekend against the Minnesota Twins after sweeping the Twins in Minnesota last weekend. This four-game series in three days will mark the end of the 2011 season at home for the Tribe. In many ways it is hard to believe that it is coming to an end, and in a very big way it is a shame that it is coming to an end in the last week of September.

Because man, a few months ago it sure did look as if there might be October baseball at Progressive Field this year.

Friday's 7:05 series opener will be a rematch of last Sunday's pitchers in Minnesota as Justin Masterson (12-10) will again face Carl Pavano. Masterson got the best of the matchup last week when the Indians won 6-5. Justin got the win, going six innings and allowing seven hits but only two runs. The win improved Masterson's career mark to 3-4 vs. the Twins.

Pavano (8-13), in taking the loss in Sunday's game, gave up four runs -- but only one earned run -- in 6.2 innings of work. Pavano surrendered only five hits and fanned six, but fell to 3-3 in his career against his old mates from Cleveland.

This series will continue with a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, with the opener beginning at 1:05 and the nightcap at 7:05.
