<p><a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.letsgotribe.com/">Cleveland Indians</a> bench coach and former star catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. interviewed for the manager position with the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.overthemonster.com/">Boston Red Sox</a> on Nov. 9, but he is <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Alomar-Jr-out-of-Red-Sox-managerial-race?urn=mlb-413000">no longer in the running to become the Red Sox manager</a>.</p>
<p>Instead, the Red Sox have focused their attention on <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=sportsxchange-000478663_red-sox-search-down-to-3-after-valentine-interviews">three other candidates</a>: former <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.southsidesox.com/">Chicago White Sox</a> manager and current <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.blessyouboys.com/">Detroit Tigers</a> third-base coach Gene Lamont, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bluebirdbanter.com/">Toronto Blue Jays</a> third base coach Torey Lovullo and the frontrunner -- Bobby Valentine, who most recently managed in Japan from 2004-2009, prior to which he managed the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.amazinavenue.com/">New York Mets</a> and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.lonestarball.com/">Texas Rangers</a>.</p>
<p>Although Valentine has not managed in MLB since 2002, Alomar, although respected around the game, has never managed at all, which was of course working against him throughout the hiring process.</p>
<p>Alomar also interviewed for the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/">Chicago Cubs</a> manager position, but the Cubs have since tabbed former <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.brewcrewball.com/">Milwaukee Brewers</a> pitching coach Dale Sveum as manager, so it looks like Alomar Jr. will be staying on Cleveland's bench for the time being.</p>

<p>Former <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.letsgotribe.com/">Cleveland Indians</a> catcher and current Indians bench coach <span>Sandy Alomar</span> Jr. <a href="http://boston.sbnation.com/2011/11/8/2546896/sandy-alomar-jr-boston-red-sox-manager">interviewed</a> for the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.overthemonster.com/">Boston Red Sox</a> manager position today, Nov. 9.</p>
<p>Although Alomar does not boast any direct managerial experience, he is on the <a href="http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7214007/boston-red-sox-interview-sandy-alomar-jr-manager-job">short list of candidates</a> to replace the departed Terry Francona for Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington .</p>
<blockquote>
<p><span id="mn_Global"><span id="mn_Article">"He didn't know who I was, in '98 with Cleveland," said Cherington, who is now the Red Sox general manager and leading the search for a new manager in Boston. "But I saw him in the clubhouse—I was in the clubhouse all the time—and I saw the leader he was back then, the respect he had in that clubhouse. I've been sort of following him since then." </span></span></p>
</blockquote>
<p>Alomar played 20 years in the majors and was a six-time All-Star. Many of his finest moments came with the Indians in the 1990s when the team experienced great success. He debuted with the <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.gaslampball.com/">San Diego Padres</a> in 1988 along with brother Roberto Alomar, who was inducted to Hall of Fame in 2011, and the two re-joined each other when Roberto joined the Indians more than a decade later in 1999. His father, Sandy Alomar, Sr., was an All-Star second baseman and coached for the San Diego Padres, <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/">Chicago Cubs</a>, and <a class="sbn-auto-link" href="https://www.purplerow.com/">Colorado Rockies</a>.</p>
<p>Alomar is a hot name at the moment and is <a href="http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7209082/sandy-alomar-jr-talk-chicago-cubs-friday">scheduled to interview with the Chicago Cubs on Nov. 11</a>.</p>
