Nobody on the Cleveland Cavaliers except for Kyrie Irving seem to be enjoying their basketball right now, with only a single win in their last five games. That win was their most recent game against the New York Knicks, but the Cavs will still need to string together a bit more of a winning streak if they want any hope at reaching a playoff seed in this shortened NBA season.

The weekend starts for the Cavs as they welcome the New Jersey Nets to Cleveland. The currently 6-13 Nets don't have all that much going for them, but similarly to the Cavs they have a very exciting rookie named MarShon Brooks lighting it up in Jersey right now. It's unclear as to whether he'll be able to play the rookie showdown against Irving as he currently is struggling with Achilles tendon pain. The game in Cleveland will be Friday night at 7:30 PM EST.

Sunday brings the Cavs to Boston in their first of two games against the Boston Celtics in a row. Boston is currently 8-9 thanks to a mixture of sloppy play and injuries. They did have quite a magical comeback in their last game against the Orlando Magic so it should be interesting to see how they respond.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are having a fairly mediocre season right now, but have looked far better than they did in 2011 thanks in part to the heroics of rookie Kyrie Irving. Irving is playing well beyond his years right now and is the first rookie to appear in SB Nation's 2012 NBA MVP Power Rankings this season.

Let's give the rookie some love: the Cavs look much better than last year's version (which had decent players at point guard in Mo Williams, Baron Davis and Ramon Sessions), and much of that is due to Irving's excellent offensive contributions. The last rookie to score at least 17 points with a True Shooting percentage of .575 or better was Tim Duncan. The last rookie guard to do it? Michael Jordan.

Being compared to NBA greats like Tim Duncan and Michael Jordan might be a bit much this early in the season, but I'm sure that the Cavaliers won't complain if Irving continues on the blisteringly hot pace that he's currently on. Irving is the best hope that Cleveland have seen since Lebron James and if there's any chance that the Cavs make it to the playoffs in this lockout shortened season, it's going to be through Kyrie's hands.

With two minutes remaining in the Cleveland Cavaliers' loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, power forward Tristian Thompson rolled over his ankle, which essentially crippled him for the rest of the game even though he was able to stay around. Thompson at the time was having a great game with 16 points against Atlanta, even in what became a big loss.

Now it's been announced by Sam Amico that Christian Eyenga has been called up from D-League and that Thompson is status is to be determined for the game against the Miami Heat on Tuesday. This doesn't necessarily mean that the injury is serious, but the ankle is currently being examined.

With the Cavaliers already somewhat weak and especially weak on depth, it is vital that the team doesn't get too injured during the season especially with big games like the one against the Heat on the horizon.

The Cleveland Cavaliers haven't impressed all that many people this season outside of some great play by rookie Kyrie Irving, and it shows in the latest SBnation power rankings, where Tom Ziller has the Cavs stuck all the way down at 22nd overall. That's just barely above the struggling New York Knicks and just slightly worse than Golden State.

22. Cleveland Cavaliers 6-9 W: CHA; L: GS, ATL, CHI Fear The Sword
Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, basically, are the difference between "worst in the league" and "kinda bad."

Sounds about right for this Cavs team, who would likely be somewhere around three wins at most right now if it weren't for some heroics by those two. There's still quite a ways to go for the Cavs to be a playoff contender, perhaps they can resign themselves to simply moving higher in the power rankings of the world.

The Cavaliers face Lebron James and the Miami Heat this week before games against New York, New Jersey and Boston.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have flashed a lot of promise this season -- mostly through the hands of rookie Kyrie Irving -- but have been unable to translate the promise into ticks in the W column. The most exciting news of the last week for the Cavs was probably Zydrunas Ilgauskas being added into the front office more than anything that happened on the court.

The week starts for Cleveland with a Tuesday draw against the Miami Heat, who if you hadn't heard have a player that was once rather important to the Cavs. The Heat have been playing fairly well recently even without Dwayne Wade around and are doing well at 11-5 right now, though that's only good enough for third in their division at present.

The second leg of the back to back on Wednesday sees Cleveland go back home to meet Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks. The Knicks had a long, hard fought game against the Nuggets on Saturday and might still be tired. On the bright side for them, they won't be at home where they've played less than impressively. The back to back will have a day off after followed by a game against the Nets and then a Sunday match against the Boston Celtics, the first of two in a row against Boston.
