The Ohio State women's basketball season ended unceremoniously on Sunday with a first-round loss to the Florida Gators. The Buckeyes were the No. 8 seed but had the fortuitous placement of being sent to Bowling Green for the first and second round games. They were not able to capitalize on the friendly environment and lost to the Gators, 70-65, in their opening round game.

Tayler Hill scored 23 points to lead OSU, including two buckets down the stretch that cut the Florida lead to just two. But OSU could never pull even with Florida, who moved on behind the performance of Jennifer George, who answered Hill at the other end. George had 16 points and six rebounds for Florida. The Gators will almost certainly play the No. 1 overall seed in the next round - an undefeated Baylor Bears squad led by Brittney Griner.

Ohio State's women's basketball team was given a No. 8 seed, they will face No. 9 Florida in Bowling Green and a win will mean a date with No. 1 overall seed, undefeated Baylor.

The Ohio State women's basketball team was not granted any favors by the selection committee for the 2012 NCAA Women's Tournament. The Buckeyes will face a mediocre Florida team in the first round, but a win will grant them a date with the No. 1 overall seed, the undefeated Baylor Bears. The Gators were just 8-8 in the SEC this season, and will have to travel to the Buckeye state for their first round matchup with OSU.

While Jim Foster's club was placed in the same pod as the best team in the country, they do have the good fortune of play their first and potentially second round games in Bowling Green. The Buckeyes had a strong non-confernce season before stumbling a bit in the Big Ten. Their season ended with a 15-point semifinal loss to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament. They will have their work cut out for them to get to regionals.
