On Friday afternoon, the Columbus Blue Jackets and NHL unveiled the official logo for the 2013 All-Star Game.

Not much went right for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2011-12 season. After finishing in dead last in addition to failing to earn the number one overall selection in June's entry draft, Columbus hockey fans haven't had much to be excited about lately.

On Friday afternoon, they finally received some good news when the Blue Jackets and NHL unveiled the official logo for the 2013 NHL All-Star Game which will be hosted at the Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus on January 26, 2013.

Here it is:

The logo was designed by Frederick & Froberg Design and NHL Creative Services. It was inspired by the Columbus state flag as well as the team's close association with Ohio's Civil War history.

"We are thrilled to bring the NHL All-Star Game to Columbus -- home of a passionate fan base, committed ownership, a determined organization and a world-class facility in Nationwide Arena," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "The city and the Blue Jackets were outstanding hosts during the 2007 NHL Draft, and we look forward to the warm welcome they will provide our players, the media, our business partners and guests."

The NHL has announced that the 2013 All-Star festivities will take place in Columbus, Ohio, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It's hard to pull many positives from a team that has an NHL-worst 32 points this season, but here's a big one: the league announced Saturday that the Columbus Blue Jackets will host the 2013 All-Star festivities on the weekend of Jan. 26 and 27.

The 12-year-old franchise has never hosted the All-Star weekend, but they did host the 2007 NHL Draft, and commissioner Gary Bettman pointed to its success as part of the reason for choosing Columbus:

"We're looking forward to bringing our All-Star celebration to Columbus," Bettman said. "The Blue Jackets did a great job of hosting the NHL Draft in 2007, and I have no doubt they will raise the bar even higher when they welcome our All-Star celebration next January."

According to Puck Rakers, the NHL would not approve the city of Columbus for the game in the past because the area around the arena did not have enough high-end hotel rooms. That's changing, though, as a 500-room Hilton just blocks from the rink will be completed in September this year. Congratulations, Columbus.
