In his rookie season in 2011, Taylor started in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded four sacks and 59 tackles.

The Cleveland Browns beefed up their defensive line on Friday as the team announced the moves to activate defensive tackle Phillip Taylor from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and promote defensive tackle Ronnie Cameron from the practice squad.

Taylor, a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, missed the first seven games of the season for the Browns after he tore a pectoral muscle during the offseason. Following the activation from the PUP list, Taylor is expected to make his season debut on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Cameron, 23, was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent, but was claimed by the Browns off waivers and appeared in each of the final three preseason games of the year for Cleveland. He spent each of the first eight weeks of the season on the practice squad.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor will make his 2012 debut on Sunday, when the Browns take on the Baltimore Ravens.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor is set to make his 2012 debut on Sunday after missing Cleveland's first eight games with a torn pectoral muscle.

Taylor suffered the injury in May when he was lifting weights, and he underwent surgery to repair the torn muscle on May 16. Originally, it was believed that Taylor could miss up to 12 games, but Taylor will only miss eight games after a quick recovery.

Cleveland drafted Taylor with the No. 21 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Baylor University. Taylor was named to the Pro-Football Weekly All-Rookie team in 2011.

Taylor's return comes at a fortunate time for the Browns, as Cleveland prepares to take on Ray Rice and the Baltimore Ravens. Cleveland was without defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin in Week 8, as Rubin was forced to sit out Cleveland's contest against the San Diego Chargers with a calf injury.

Taylor's return will help bolster a run defense that ranks 24th in the league. Opponents have averaged 131.6 yards per game on the ground against the Browns this year.

Healthy for the first time since suffering an injury back in the spring, Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phillip Taylor made his triumphant return to the practice field on Wednesday, according to a report by Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan.

A first-round pick by the Browns out of Baylor in 2011, the 335-pound Taylor tore his left pectoral muscle while lifting weights in early May and has missed nearly six months of action. Taylor was placed on Cleveland's physically unable to perform (PUP) list immediately before the start of the season, and was obviously thrilled to be back on the practice field for the first time in 2012.

"It felt good," Taylor said following Wednesday's practice. "Just had to knock off the cobwebs a little bit. I’m glad I’m back out here now and getting back in the swing of things."

As far as when he might actually be able to return to action on Sundays, the second-year lineman knows that it will take some time to get acclimated after missing such a significant portion of the year. "I’m just taking it day by day right now so maybe the next 2 weeks or so," Taylor said."It’s my first week of practice and you’re not going to throw somebody in after 1 week of practice after not playing for half the season."

Coming off a four-sack rookie campaign where he played in all 16 games and tallied 59 total tackles, Taylor's immense presence on the line will be a serious boost for head coach Pat Shurmur's lackluster run defense. The Browns have sputtered out of the gate with a woeful 1-6 record, and the team will need to hope that Taylor's eventual return will help spurn a second-half turnaround.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor returned to practice with his teammates on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from a torn pectoral muscle, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. The former first round pick has been on the physically unable to perform list all season due to the injury.

While Taylor is practicing with his teammates again, the odds that he actually plays against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday are "very low," according to Scott Petrak of Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. It's far more likely that Taylor's return comes next week against the Baltimore Ravens, or on Nov. 18 following the team's bye.

Drafted 21st overall by Cleveland in 2011, Taylor was immediately plugged into a starting role by head coach Pat Shurmur going into the 2011 season. Starting all 16 games for the team, the 24-year-old recorded 59 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble during his rookie year.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor will return to practice this week after tearing his pectoral muscle in May, as head coach Pat Shurmur tells Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. The 21st overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Baylor, Taylor could provide a needed boost to Cleveland's defense.

Taylor's potential return comes at a particularly good time for the Browns, as fellow defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin re-aggravated a calf injury in the Browns' loss against the Indianapolis Colts. Rubin has started all six of Cleveland's games so far this season, but he could end up missing some time.

Last year as a rookie, Taylor started all 16 games for the Browns and played fairly well. As part of a defensive unit that was quietly solid last year, the 24-year-old recorded 37 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble before suffering the injury to his pectoral muscle this spring.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phillip Taylor is now eligible to return to practice after spending six weeks on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list due to a torn pectoral muscle, but the young lineman has yet to actually get back on the practice field. The 24-year-old lineman didn't practice on Wednesday, but he told Jodie Valade of Cleveland.com that he is feeling healthy and that he has resumed weightlifting activities. Taylor tore his pectoral muscle while weightlifting during the off-season.

The Browns could certainly use the No. 21 pick of the 2011 NFL Draft in the trenches because the defensive unit is currently ranked No. 30 in defending the pass and No. 25 in defending the run. Taylor collected 59 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble during his rookie season.

The Browns finally earned their first win of the season in Week 6, and they traveled to Indianapolis to take on Andrew Luck and the Colts this week (1 p.m. ET, CBS).

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor is on schedule to return to practice when eligible next week both Mary Kay Cabot and Tony Grossi reported. Taylor was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list due to a torn pectoral muscle and is ineligible to play or practice until after Week 6.

Taylor, 24, was the 21st pick of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Browns and finished his rookie season with 59 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble. Taylor torn his pectoral muscle while weightlifting in the offseason and was forced to get surgery to repair the muscle tear in May. Head coach Pat Shurmur said Taylor looked great and will return to practice next week. Taylor should resume his starting role once he is ready to take the field.

The Browns are currently 0-5 and host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6. The first game Taylor would be eligible to play in would be the Browns game against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 21.

The Cleveland Browns have officially placed defensive tackle Phil Taylor on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to Scott Petrak. Taylor will miss at least the first six games of 2012.

Taylor is currently recovering from surgery to repair a torn pectoral, an injury which he sustained while weightlifting as part of the Browns' offseason workout program. He stated a few months ago that the team planned on treating his injury carefully, as he wasn't allowed to lift weights after the surgery, and was limited strictly to "range of motion" activities.

On Monday, the Browns made a move to shore up the depth on the defensive line, which was left with a bit of a void following Taylor's injury, as they were awarded Ernest Owusu off of waivers from the Minnesota Vikings.

Taylor, 24, was selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Baylor. In his rookie season, Taylor started all 16 games for the Browns, accumulating 37 tackles and four sacks.
