One of college basketball's marquee opening weekend games has been called off due to weather, and it appears the game will not be made up.

The Carrier Classic between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Marquette Golden Eagles has been canceled due to condensation on the court. The decision to call the game was made by both schools' coaches and athletic directors, and is not expected to be rescheduled this season.

The game was set to be played on a U.S. aircraft carrier docked in Charleston, S.C., but a drop in temperature at sunset brought condensation to the court. Game crews and even players and coaches worked to wipe the floor dry, but the condensation reappeared, forcing the cancellation. The game's braintrust waited as long as possible to see if the game could go on, even extending pre-game warm ups by 20 minutes.

The Carrier Classic is one of three college basketball games on Friday night tied to the armed forces. The Michigan State Spartans and Connecticut Huskies opened the night playing in a hangar at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, and the Florida Gators and Georgetown Hoyas will tip off at 9 p.m. ET aboard in aircraft carrier in Jacksonville, Fla.

Weather is significantly affecting the scheduled season opener between Marquette and Ohio State.

The 2012 Carrier Classic game between Ohio State and Marquette has been delayed due to condensation on the court. Because of the temperature drop as the sun set in the Charleston area, condensation immediately started to form on the outdoor court on the deck of the US aircraft carrier. The weather was expected to play a factor, with temperatures forecasted to be between 45 and 55 degrees.

Both teams were announced, and as the two first fives came to center court for the tip, the staff on hand immediately had to wipe off the floor. The players returned to their benches, but condensation immediately began to form again on the hardwood. The biggest problem was on Marquette's end of the floor, in front of their bench, which abutted the harbor water. At one point, the players and schools came out to help dry off the court. It was a bizarre scene, as even Marquette head coach Buzz Williams was on all fours wiping off the floor.

Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith was on scene, and both ADs and coaches went through a discussion with the game's officials. It was decided that both teams would warm up and see if the conditions were playable. This is obviously one of the many circumstances that can affect an outdoor game, and safety is definitely a No. 1 priority. After both teams warmed up, they put 20 more minutes on the clock in the hopes that the temperature would drop a few degrees and halt the condensation.

The women's game, which had to deal with some nasty sun glare, went off without the condensation problem. Ohio State lost to Notre Dame, 57-51, in the first game of the triple header. Georgetown and Florida are scheduled to play the nightcap.

The Buckeyes kick off their 2012-13 season against the Golden Eagles on a carrier ship Friday night.

The No. 4 Ohio State men's basketball team will kick off its season Friday night against Marquette at the Carrier Classic off the coast of Charleston, S.C.

The Buckeyes and Golden Eagles face off in the second part of a basketball doubleheader on the USS Yorktown. Before the Ohio State men's team hits the court, the women's team will play Notre Dame.

The weather could create a problem Friday night. According to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, the temperature will be approximately 50 degrees Fahrenheit and officials are expecting high winds.

SB Nation's Land Grant Holy Land expects the weather to be a factor:

This could make things a little interesting for the squads coming into the game, particularly Ohio State. No longer a "live by the three, die by the three" team like they were a few years ago, the Buckeyes must bring a physical, pound-the-paint, inside game against Marquette if they want the easiest road to victory.

The court is set up on the end of the USS Yorktown. The court features a large net that will catch any bad passes or errant shots.

"That one end is intimidating. I didn't know it would be so close to the edge of the ship," Ohio State coach Thad Matta told reporters. "After watching us pass the ball in practice, I hope they'll have some extra ones."

Ohio State was a Final Four team last year, going 31-8 overall.

Marquette is coming off a 27-8 overall record from last season. The Golden Eagles lost in the Round of 16.

The stands on the USS Yorktown will hold about 4,000 people. Half of that should be service men and women.

The Wooden Award preseason top 50 features Deshaun Thomas and Aaron Craft from Ohio State and Ohio University's D.J. Cooper.

The Wooden Award preseason top 50 was unveiled on Thursday and includes two Ohio State Buckeyes and one player for the Ohio Bobcats. The Wooden Award is given to the most outstanding college basketball player at the end of every season. Freshmen and transfer students are not eligible for the preseason list, but can be added at a later time and can win the award at the end of the season.

Ohio State placed two juniors, Deshaun Thomas and Aaron Craft, on the preseason list. Thomas averaged 15.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season and was named a AP Preseason All-American. With Jared Sullinger gone, Thomas will be the focal point of the Buckeyes offense. Craft was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season and averaged 8.8 points, 4.6 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game.

Ohio Bobcats senior guard D.J. Cooper was also included in the preseason top 50. Last season Cooper averaged 14.7 points, 5.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game and led the Bobcats to the Sweet Sixteen.

Ohio State will don fresh new camouflage jerseys for their game against Marquette in the Carrier Classic.

The Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team will wear camouflage-patterned uniforms for Friday night's game against the Marquette Golden Eagles, according to Luke Zimmermann of Land-Grant Holy Land, SB Nation's dedicated Ohio State blog. The game will be played aboard the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier docked in Mount Pleasant, S.C.

The military-themed uniforms are a great fit for the Carrier Classic game, which will benefit the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, the Wounded Warrior Project and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Last season's inaugural installment of the game, played between the Michigan State Spartans and North Carolina Tar Heels, raised nearly $500,000.

The Buckeye women will be in action on the aircraft carrier as well, taking on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish prior to the men's game.

Tickets to the games were made available to veterans and current members of the armed forces, as well as to the general public. For updates about tickets and more, visit the Carrier Classic's official Facebook page.
